3) Regularly detoxify your body
Firstly a disclaimer, detoxing your body should never be a substitute for de-junking your body. What do I mean by that? Well, detoxing can only help in removing toxins already present in your body, but it will do little to help if you are constantly and continually feeding yourself with junk and chemicals mentioned above.
Having said that, detoxing is great as a way to “reset” your body and flush it of impurities dormant within. The focus organs are normally kidney, liver, skin and bowels, with special attention on removing heavy metals.

A word of warning however, detox methods normally cause the symptoms to be worse before they get better. Rest assured that it is perfectly normal, just continue to persist along, and you will thank yourself for sticking to it
4) Practise a systematic elimination & replacement of non-beneficial food types
First thing in your “remove-from-diet-list”, refined sugars! These can commonly be found in white bread, breakfast cereals, reconstituted fruit juices and other packaged foods. I hear so many people complaining that the reason they find it hard to do is because there are no alternatives good enough – well I beg to differ. Things like rice and grain malts (which have a pleasant sweetness), pure unrefined honey, fresh fruit juices and raisins are great ways to add the sweetness of flavour, while giving you the natural goodness of each.
Be wary of how much honey you use however, it may certainly be natural but it contains more calories than most other sugars. What’s my best piece of advice? Well, gradually wean yourself of those foods I mentioned, and move to legumes, wholegrains and complex carbs which give a slow release of sugar to the blood stream. In my opinion, one of the best natural remedies for acne is a simple diet change, that is maintained.
Next, eliminate from your diet things like fried foods, cookies, biscuits, snacks, chips and processed foods since these are high in omega-6 oils, hydrogenated fats and worse yet, trans-fat. Simply put, these are bad fats that can make your acne worse by overstimulating your glands to produce more sebum (oil) and have many negative health associations such as increased levels of bad cholesterol, high blood pressure and heart diseases.
Please don’t misunderstand, your body still needs fats and oils since they are vital to your wellbeing, just not the kind that’s infused into packaged foods, or the type you find dripping from your fries.
Finally, the other things you want to do away with are preservatives and flavourers such as MSG and aspartame. MSG contains many artificial flavourings and preservatives that are toxic to the body.
Aspartame on the other hand is a neurotoxin, affecting normal nerve and brain function in accumulated dosages. Where do you find it? Well, you’ll be surprised but it’s a popular ingredient in things like diet colas and artificial sweeteners. Like any toxins or poisons, your body will try to remove it from the body, and that is done through your detoxification organs. Well, guess what, your skin is one of them! It’s just an extra burden that you really don’t want your skin to be carrying, and an important step in finding the best natural remedies for acne.
5) Maintaining good health to prevent acne
Your goal, as every acne sufferer’s should be, is to completely eradicate acne and prevent it from ever occurring again. You do this by making lifestyle decisions that will give the best longest term benefits. I cannot stress this enough! No retinol treatment, antibiotics or pimple cream will ever replace this process. Have a balanced diet, eat the right foods in their right proportions, get sufficient rest, drink enough fluids and avoid foods that will aggravate your condition.
A secret weapon to fighting acne is to supplement your diet with vitamins and minerals such as Vitamin A, C, E, zinc & selenium. Although these come in a variety of forms, go with those that are chelated, since this means the pills/capsules are pre-acidified and give a 40-50% boost in absorption.
