Firstly, consider this, the earliest instance of chemicals like benzoyl peroxide and salicylic acid being used in anti-acne treatment can be traced back no longer than 70 or 80 years ago. Does this mean that prior to this, there were no methods of curing acne? Well, certainly not! It would be ridiculous to even make a statement like that.
Two possibilities arise from this though, either alternative forms of treatments were available or perhaps only a smaller proportion of the population had to deal with this, making this only a small problem. Could it be that the distinct choices of lifestyles between the times of old and our modern era are the very things contributing to the widespread problem of acne?
Among them would be the high level of stress we subject ourselves to, unnatural patterns of rest and sleep, consumption of heavily processed and toxic foods as well as an increasingly polluted environment. Therefore, the logical next step for you is to discover how to adopt the ideal lifestyle habits that not only help to remove acne but prevent acne from recurring, so you never have to worry about using costly medications.
Here is my list of top natural acne remedies that gives great simple tips to rid yourself of acne, FOR GOOD. They may sound simple, but are proven to work as long as you take the time to implement them.
1) Water, Rest, De-stress
This is crucial! Make sure you drink at least 2 litres of water a day, which comes to about 8 glasses. So many people ignore this, but let me assure you that even the best treatments are dulled if you skip this vital step. Furthermore, get at least 7 to 8 hours of sleep daily and make sure it is continuous rest, not just a daily combined total.
Take short bouts of time daily to also distress, and make sure you set aside time each week to do activities that you find most relaxing. If you constantly suffer flare-ups of acne and its not due to hormonal imbalances (adolescent or adult), I can say with confidence that part of the problem is your stress or tiredness levels. Look after yourself and your skin has a better chance to look after itself.
2) Have good skin hygiene
For starters, ensure you wash your face no more than twice daily and use gentle cleansers. By gentle I mean with minimal fragrance and preferably very little foaming. A good type of cleanser would be castile soaps – these are soaps made with olive oil and have a gentle cleansing property plus they don’t foam much. Also, make it a habit to exfoliate with facial scrubs but be vigilant to do it only weekly. Some products recommend it daily, but then again, how else are they to make more sales?
Do it too frequently and you strip your skin of vital lipids and expose it to dryness and scars, do it too infrequently and you’ll find your pores clogging up easily, forming whiteheads, blackheads or pimples. If you are active in sports, shower shortly after you finish playing. Trust me, you do not want to let your sweat linger on your body giving a chance for more dirt and bacteria to accumulate.
