Hi Everyone,

I’ve set up this website as a resource to anyone who is suffering from the all types of acne related problems and is looking for a genuine cure for acne.

In this site you’ll find various tips, advice and step-by-step guides on what to do so that acne becomes something you only talk about in past tense. All these are designed to help you not only get rid of pimples, blackheads or whiteheads quickly, but more importantly to help you finally achieve acne free skin for good. With that, rest assured that this site is going to be around for quite some time and will continue to be here until you finally find the cure for acne you’ve always wanted.

First of all, I thought it would be useful for everyone reading to understand what acne really is, and how it is formed. In the training of my profession, I am taught that to first solve a problem, you must start by understanding the cause the problem. Fighting acne is no different.

In a nutshell, acne is caused primarily by the blocking of pores or hair follicles in your skin. It can take many common forms such as pimples, whiteheads, blackheads and also large cystlike masses that are sometimes hard to the touch.

Since it is a condition that is solely associated with skin, it helps to have an appreciation of basic skin anatomy. Your skin has an outer layer called the epidermis which is the part of skin that you can see. You might not know this, but every inch of skin you see is made of dead skin cells! Not only that, humans shed 40, 000 dead cells every minute, or over 60 million cells in a day. Beneath the epidermis is the dermis layer, which is around 10 times as thick as the outer layer. This is the control center of skin, if you like, and has sweat glands as well as sebum glands. Sebum is that oily substance on your face that makes it go shiny, but more importantly, helps to keep your skin water proof! Finding the cure for acne hinges upon your understanding of this process.

If you’re looking for a great guide now on how to have acne-free skin, click on the link provided below:

Ultimate Guide for Acne-Free Skin

Sweat, sebum and dead skin cells travel up through these glands/ducts and together form a protective layer on your skin surface. At some point of time, depending on the sequence of events, blockages of pores, bacterial infection or inflammation of skin cells can result in different lesions in your skin. These appear as bumps, rash like appearances, and nodules or what we very commonly call pimples, blackheads or whiteheads.

As you probably already know, acne appears on your face, upper back, shoulder or upper chest. The reason for this is because these areas of your body contain more sebaceous follicles (more oil producing follicles) than any other part, making them more susceptible to acne breakouts.

There are several factors that cause and contribute to acne formation, they are:

A) Excessive division of cells in follicles

The search for the cure for acne starts at the cell level. Many scientists believe that this is the initial trigger point of acne but cannot accurately determine the reasons for it. There are many explanations for this, and hormonal reactions is one of them. The problem with this is, well, when too many cells are rushing through the same narrow passage (your glands), this can only mean one thing – a jam-up.

B) Excessive sebum

This commonly occurs in teenagers who hit puberty, thus kicking hormone production levels through the roof. It triggers an excessive production of sebum in skin which in turn gives fertile ground for acne vulgaris (the most commons acne type) to form. Yet this condition is not something exclusively reserved for teens, adults have the problem of excessive sebum too, but is triggered by other things such as lifestyle habits and diet choices. For teenagers, often the best cure for acne is to ensure excess sebum is washed away regularly.

C) Presence of Bacteria

A specific bacteria called Propionibacterium acnes or P.acnes for short, is found in the different type of lesions discussed before. The bacteria itself may not be of much threat, but it feeds on fatty acids and the sebum that is found in skin. The presence of this bacteria however, relates to the fourth point below. Many cures for acne focus on eliminating this bacteria altogether

D) Inflammation of skin tissue

As a natural mechanism of fighting bacteria, your body will introduce inflammation around an infected site and send white blood cells or lymphocytes to eliminate the offender. The problem is, it is not a happy story for your physical appearances. The blockage to the pore is forced to flare outward and your skin becomes sore, painful to the touch and unsightly.

As you can see, finding the cure for acne is not as simple a problem as medicine manufacturers would have you believe. While creams, pills and other forms of meds certainly help target specific areas, they fail to give you a complete view on how acne can be treated in the long term. Feel free to browse the articles on the left and have a notepad and pen ready, because you don’t want to forget any tips you find useful for yourself.

Before you read those articles to find yourself a cure for acne, make sure you sign up for my free 6 part acne solution mini course below which includes various acne tips, myths and facts.

Some work great, others don’t do much and some are simply outrageous.

Based on what’s being suggested out there it seems like you can throw pretty much anything on your face and it will work for your acne!

While I am a big advocate for natural treatments, I only recommend them if they are scientifically grounded and have a proven track record.

Basically, for homemade acne treatments to work, they must meet at least one of four requirements:

Have anti-microbial properties

Absorb excess oil from your skin

Withdraw impurities from skin

Reduce inflammation

Click Here For The Best Guide On How To Have Acne Free Skin

I will present my top 5 favourite homemade acne treatments, along with information about why they work and which acne conditions best to use them for. I then list a few treatments that are commonly touted, but should be avoided.

Recommended homemade acne treatments:-

a) Baking soda

A common form is to use this as a mask. Mix a small amount of baking soda (50g) with just enough water to form a paste. Apply onto your face and leave on for about 10 minutes, then rinse off. This paste absorbs excess oil from your skin and also give some mild exfoliation to your skin. It works indirectly by addressing the root causes of acne but probably won’t work well as a topical treatment

b) Tea Tree Oil

One of my favourites- mix a few drops of essential tea tree oil into water to form a 5% solution. So if you were using 100 ml of water, add no more than 5 ml of tea tree oil. Rub some of that solution onto affected areas and repeat a few times in the day. Tea Tree Oil has good anti-microbial properties and some say a 10% tea tree oil solution works as well as a 5% benzoyl peroxide one, minus the side effects of course. A word of warning, do not apply undiluted tea tree oil directly onto skin as it can cause strong irritation.

c) Oatmeal Mask

Blend a handful of uncooked oats until you get a nice powder. Mix with some warm water and throw in a few drops of chamomile or lavender and you have your own oatmeal mask. Leave on your skin for about 10 minutes before washing off. Similar to commercial mud masks, it has a vacuum surface and draws impurities away from your skin and pores.

d) Honey Mask

Take a some honey (a few tbsp at most) and apply a thin layer to areas on your face affected by acne. Leave on for about 10 minutes and wash off with water. Honey has anti-microbial properties and as a bonus provides some additional moisturizing benefits too.

Click Here For The Best Guide On How To Have Acne Free Skin

e) Aloe Vera

This works best for inflamed acne blemishes and helps significantly with acne scars. Apply a thin layer to affected areas and leave on. Aloe Vera has been medically proven to work well on scar tissue and has great anti-inflammatory properties. This helps to improve the appearances of reddened acne lesions.

Methods NOT recommended

The following treatments get a lot of press time but there are some reasons why you should avoid these so called homemade acne treatments

Toothpaste - Often recommended because it contains triclosan, which is antibacterial. However, they normally contain various other ingredients that cause severe skin irritation, that often leave your skin looking worse! My advice- keep toothpaste on your teeth.

Lemon juice – There are merits to using lemon juice, but the one treatment I read about a lot is applying lemon juice directly onto the skin. Lemon juice is highly acidic, and will dry your skin significantly while damaging it slowly. Sure it may kill the bacteria, but it is definitely not worth the effort.

Egg – I am personally bamboozled how this “treatment” even got around. Yes it has fantastic amino acids your body needs, but only if eaten, not if applied to skin. Probably acts as a good moisturizer and nothing else, I wouldn’t waste my time with this

In the end, be aware that even the best homemade acne treatments work only for mild acne. To avoid needing to use these remedies in the first place, you should focus on preventing acne. This comes through careful consideration of things such as your diet, certain lifestyle habits as well as some emotional factors.

Homemade acne treatments can only get you so far, and they do nothing to prevent you from having to deal with those frustrating acne blemishes in the future.

In a market where so many guides claim to give you acne free skin within 3 days, or making you blemish free overnight, this book is refreshingly honest!

It claims to cure your acne in 2 weeks – if anything, it sounds a little underwhelming. Many over the counter products seem to give me that result, so is this book worth your dollar? This 14 Days Acne Cure Review will attempt to give you all the information you need to make a decision.

First Impressions

As I mentioned before, I wasn’t too excited to find out that I had to wait a full 2 weeks to see my mild acne disappear. Not long into the book however, I understood exactly what the book was trying to achieve.

Casey Gentles, the author of this book kindly explains that the 14 day cure period was a challenge set for the most severe of acne, with milder forms being cured earlier (Ahhh, he read my mind!).

With this challenge set, it was time to pull out my critiquing hat – sounds like a bit of hype to me.

Firstly, the bonuses. Many products offer bonuses galore, but I actually found the 5 additional books as bonuses to be surprisingly complimentary to the main theme of the book. Sitting on around 70 pages, 14 Days Acne Cure was a fairly substantial book, so that at least gave me some reader’s confidence.

Techniques Prescribed

One of the main positives for me was that it provided a ready made 14-day acne fighting plan that you could literally pluck out and transplant into your calendar. It gave a clear set of daily objectives with a cleansing plan, diet plan and additional extras (like detox and nutritional supplements).

There is a very clever way in which this program is set out – something you could easily miss if you just followed it verbatim. In providing a daily plan of action, it implicitly tries to instill good hygiene and dietary habits into his readers, and this is the true value of this book.

They say that it takes 21 days to develop a new habit, and by the end of this guide, you would have gone 2/3rds of the way in achieving that – bravo!

Another thing you immediately notice is that each claim made in this book is backed up with some scientific explanation. A lot of the reasons behind the techniques are explained in detail so that the reader never has to wonder why they’re being asked to do something.

The final word

All in all this is a solid well researched and written guide that certainly delivers. I would take the 14 day cure period with a pinch of salt, especially if you have more severe forms of acne, but then again you have the full 60-day refund period to see if it really works.

I highly recommend this book and it is something you should really consider if you’re looking for solid techniques to get rid of your acne and more importantly, keep it away.

The support team for the product is also highly useful and have a maximum turnaround time of 48 hours if you have any questions about your purchase. Click on the link below to visit 14 Days Acne Cure Website.

Surely it was just internet marketing hype, or so I was told.

In this review of The Scar Solution, I will shed some light on what to expect when you purchase this much lauded scar removal guide.

Initial Thoughts

The Scar Solution is a unique blend of scientifically sound scar advice as well as an approach to a more natural way of eliminating scars.

Instead of the many guides that tend to advocate “homemade” remedies or dubious untested methods, this guide only recommends methods the author has had personal success with.

It is reasonably priced and amazingly comes with a 60-day money back guarantee period! This was unusual because products I review normally come with only a 1-month money back period, at most. This means you can try the recommended methods for a full 2 months completely risk free. It was certainly reassuring that the author was confident with his offerings – but I wanted to find out more.

Do these scar treatments really work?

The way it is written, The Scar Solution feels almost like 2 books in one – the first being a well researched manual on current scar treatment techniques, and the 2nd where he offers alternative solutions.

Sean Lowry attempts to remove all the hype as he explains his proven scar techniques step-by-step in simple to understand terms. He never makes audacious claims, but his tone throughout certainly belies a quiet confidence in his techniques.

My favourite part about this guide is that he provides different treatment methods depending on which type of scars you have, whether it be acne scarring, surgical scarring or scars from wounds. Some other guides I’ve previously viewed lump all types into a single category and provide generic advice that leaves you unsatisfied.

In Chapter 1 and 2, the guide gives the lowdown on different scarring types and gives some fantastic tips on preventing scarring. The next couple of chapters focuses on the actual techniques he teaches to get rid of different scars effectively. Being the eternal skeptic, I was expecting to find rehashed granny tales but I was glad to find my fears dispelled. He claims that his techniques were exhaustively tested and that he personally used them to treat his own scars, with great success (which explains why he offers a 60-day return policy I suppose).

One criticism I have of The Scar Solution is that it is a fairly short guide, under a 100 pages. I also would have liked to hear more about his personal acne scars stories. Then again, I wasn’t expecting a story book when I bought this, and sometimes short and sweet is always better. That’s what this book offers – a solid, condensed guide packed with some great techniques that are proven.

The final word

So, would I recommend The Scar Solution? The answer is a resounding YES! This book is far from perfect, but it most certainly over-delivers on its promise. The thing that hooked me was the longer-than-usual 60-day refund period, and I’m happy to say I’ve not had to return it yet

If you are suffering from debilitating facial or body scars and want something that works (without the BS) then I wouldn’t be looking further than Sean Lowry’s The Scar Solution.

This is my version of The Secret Acne Cure Review.

Initial Impressions

When you read The Secret Acne Cure, it quickly becomes apparent that the main factor it focuses on is the fact that inflammation is one of the main reasons behind acne. While not entirely telling the full story, it does contain a grain of truth in it.

Acne does often result due to inflammation of clogged pores and white blood cells filling the cavities to combat bacteria, although there are other mechanisms that contribute to it…..but I digress.

Like any good product, it comes with a full refund policy, so this removes the risk for the user. I normally don’t even consider reviewing products without this guarantee, so was glad this was included.

Simplicity and ease of use

A lot of his tips focus around dietary and nutritional changes meant to target the source of inflammation and the author David Daniels goes to lengths to validate this claim.

To his credit however, he does address other aspects of treating acne such as facial cleansing, maintaining healthy stress levels and other lifestyle habits. Having said that, I would have liked to see more mention about these aspects- a small criticism in the scheme of things.

One of the major positives about this guide is that it has one of the most straight forward acne-free roadmaps to follow. It cuts away a lot of the technicalities that can be confusing and describes the actions you need to take in easy-to-follow steps. Of course it does include technical abstracts, but thankfully these are confined to the glossary and appendix section, if you so choose to read further.

The program itself focuses on implementing simple dietary changes and seems to focus on the nutritional benefits of suggested foods.

David comes down particularly hard on our standard Western diet of fast food and processed goods, calling them “disaster foods”. I especially liked this approach because it does 2 things , remove contributory factors of acne while supplementing with foods that naturally aid your body against acne.

The later sections goes into quite a bit of detail about nutritional supplements and how they are a crucial part in fighting acne. It was especially interesting to see this section so well researched because many guides merely gloss over it. It covers some must-have supplements and recommends some optional ones. This section alone is worth the price of the whole guide.

Conclusions

So, is it worth getting this guide? Well it depends- if you’re just reading for entertainment sake then it may not be right for you. However if you’re serious about fighting acne and are willing to follow the simple plan laid out every step of the way, then this is a fantastic guide to have.

I must clarify, the plan itself is simple enough, but execution of it depends primarily on the user’s discipline in following through.

All in all, this is a solid product that I would recommended. It may seem deceivingly simple to follow, but that is part of the beauty about this system. At the reduced price point it is offered at (check the site for latest prices) it represents great value for your dollar, in fact some sections in the book alone are worth the money you pay.

Well fret no more, I’m here to show you how to clear acne fast, and throw in a few extra tips on how you can avoid it from showing up on your face again – for the future of course. I call these my ABCD for fast acne action.

A – Apply something on it

Over the counter (OTC) treatments can be a lifesaver. Most acne products you find at your local pharmacist contain ingredients such as salicylic acid and benzoyl peroxide that are designed for fast action. Learning how to clear acne fast also means learning which ones work best for you.

If your skin can take it, you may want to consider 10% concentrated creams. These are best left overnight to see the best results.

Click Here To Learn How To Clear Acne Fast and Keep It Away For Good

On the other hand, for a more natural solution, try applying a few drops of natural tea tree oil on the affected site a few times a day. IT is a hit and miss approach as some people find it really effective, while others experience no difference whatsoever. It’s meant to be as strong as 5% benzoyl peroxide solutions, so its definitely worth a try.

If you don’t have hours to spare and just want to cover it up, there are a variety of skin-tone concealers that act as pimple creams as well. Give these a go, you should easily find one that your favourite cosmetics company makes.

B- Broaden your approach

Spot treatments work if you have small affected areas of acne. However, if you find that the pimple or whitehead coverage is a bit wider over your skin, you might want to try a sulfur face mask. They work by reducing general inflammation of skin as well as unclogging pores.

Don’t worry, the products nowadays don’t have the sulfur stench of older forms. Most masks instruct you to rinse off a few minutes after leaving it on your skin. Also ensure that you do not leave it on your skin overnight unless the treatment specifically allows you to do so. Knowing the limitations of these products is part of learning how to clear acne fast.

C – Cold Compress….gently

Here’s a technique on how to clear acne fast that works surprisingly well- apply something cold on the site of the acne blemish. The low temperatures helps in reducing swelling and inflammation of the blemish, improving appearances. Of course this only gives a short term effect, a day at most but it ensures that you can go out looking confident.

Click Here To Learn How To Clear Acne Fast and Keep It Away For Good

One thing to be aware of is that you should not apply something very cold like an ice cube directly on to your face. This is to avoid cold burns, an oxymoron it may seem, but a real risk. Wrap it first in a soft cloth and apply gently to the affected.

Leave on for about 20 or 30 seconds at a time and rest for at least a minute. Repeat this a few times throughout the day and especially just before you need to make that public appearance.

D – Destroy it!

Well, I didn’t mean for it to sound so drastic but I ran out of D words! What I meant was, make it disappear (hey…). A trip down to your local beautician is needed for this. Your beautician can use a high frequency vibratory device over your skin, followed by an electrode that is literally a pimple/zit zapper. There are similar devices available for home use but they are fairly costly.

What is I want to prevent acne in the first place?

That is a great question and I’m glad you asked it. While it is impossible to prevent breakouts from happening 100% percent of the time, there are several things you can do to greatly improve your chances. Maintaining acne free skin is a fine balance of adopting healthy lifestyle choices, having the right diet and managing emotional and stress levels at all times. Learning how to clear acne fast is only the first step.

Stop gap solutions may take away the occasional blemish or pimple, but it will do nothing towards insuring you against future frustration. If your acne is a bit more serious, you definitely need help.

Mike Walden’s Acne No More system offers and affordable option with a fantastic step by step plan to get rid of acne once and for all. Clicking on the link below will lead you to his website – the choice is all yours.

Although the symptoms may be similar between the two stages, the medications required can be fairly different.

Fortunately, with the right product knowledge and some care, adult acne can be a thing of the past. This article explores the different adult acne treatments available on the market and provides information so you can make an informed decision.

a) Over-The-Counter Medications (OTCs)

If you are suffering from mild acne and small breakouts of pimples or comedones, OTCs may be all the treatment you need. Most creams and solutions sold contain either benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid. Typical concentrations range from 2.5% to 10%, with the higher concentrations meant for more stubborn acne.

Click Here For The Best Guide Available To Achieve Permanent Acne Free Skin

Most adult acne sufferers should stay away from products targeted to the teenage audience as these are meant for more oily teenage skin. Using these products may cause excessive drying of skin. Fortunately, many companies have realized the need for a suitable range of adult acne treatments and have released specially suited products. These include:

Neutrogena Skin Anti-Blemish products

L’Oreal Special Care Acne Response Daily Adult Acne Regimen

Aveeno Clear Complexion Products, among others

Like any solution, OTCs may take some time to be effective, but if you do not see significant clearing within 5 to 7 weeks, you may require more substantial solutions.

b) Topical Treatment Prescriptions

The following list show common prescriptions as adult acne treatments:

Retinoids:- These include Differin, Retin-A and Avage. Retinoids work by accelerating skin cell turnover and prevents the formation of microcomedones, which is early-stage pore blockage. While these can have a positive effect on reducing wrinkles, the flipside is that they may increase your skin sensitivity to sunlight. Using appropriate sunscreen is advised if you are anticipating prolonged exposure.

Combination treatments:- Many find these the most effective topical treatments as they work on different acne causes simultaneously. Popular ones include Ziana (tretinoin and topical clindamycin combination), Benzamycin (Benzoyl peroxide and topical Erithromycin) and BenzaClin (topical clindamycin and benzoyl peroxide).

c) Oral Medications

If you find that using topical treatments are not sufficient, it may be time to move on to oral medications. These are among the best adult acne treatments available but they are often accompanied by side effects. Most have to be prescribed by a doctor or dermatologist, so it is best to consult them first.

Isotretinoin (formerly marketed as Accutane) is probably the best and widely prescribed acne control drug, but it is meant to treat only severe forms of acne like cystic acne. Many users also report side effects such as skin peeling, flaking, dry lips and dry skin.

Click Here For The Best Guide Available To Achieve Permanent Acne Free Skin

Oral antibiotics are also prescribed to treat adult acne, especially inflamed acne breakouts. These are normally prescribed along with topical treatments such as Retin-A.

Oral antibiotic treatment is normally stopped once acne breakouts are no longer visible, after which topical treatments alone should be enough. It is one of the more popular adult acne treatments because of its flexibility in terms of treatment duration.

For women, oral contraceptives (OCs) can be a useful way of controlling acne. While not normally sufficient to control serious acne, these can be used to control the occasional acne breakouts that accompany the monthly cycle. Birth control pills work by controlling hormonal imbalances in they body through the suppressing of “male” hormones called androgens. Side effects of oral contraceptives may include loss of libido, mild mood swings and uncontrolled appetites.

Similar to oral contraceptives, anti-androgen drugs can be used to control acne by controlling hormones. These block out androgen hormones like testosterone and DHEA that are closely linked to the formation of acne. Like OCs, these treatments should can be used only by women. Consult your doctor first, as there are significant risks in using these drugs when pregnant.

Natural Acne Control

While all the treatments listed above are highly effective adult acne treatments, none come with a guarantee of acne prevention. Yes they do work, but you will find yourself being highly dependent on them unless you establish a successful personal framework to combat acne.

This includes establishing a balanced diet (nutrition, avoiding certain foods, etc.), making important lifestyle changes (hydration, cleansing, etc.) and ensuring that your keep your emotional health in check.

Many people who fail to take this into consideration find that acne continues recurring even after going through expensive courses of adult acne treatments. To get a personal blueprint for guaranteed, long-term success against acne, check out the link below. It leads to a highly effective and well researched guide that deals with treating acne holistically that include addressing the lifestyle changes I listed above.

Before going through the few simple tips below, it is useful to first understand how these pesky things come about. On your skin there are literally thousands of pores that secrete sebum or oil. From time to time, these pores can get blocked by dirt, oil and dead skin cells.

Whiteheads are formed when the pore has a thin layer of skin over it and becomes completely blocked. Bacteria starts to occupy the pore, feeding on the blockage material causing an infection to occur. In response, your body fills the cavity with puss and presto, a whitehead is formed.

This article shows you how to get rid of whiteheads that pop up from time to time, regardless of whether you have a severe acne problem or not. For more serious cases of acne, where your skin is covered with lesions or very large bumps or pimples, I provide some additional tips at the end of the article.

Click Here For The Best Guide on How To Get Rid of Whiteheads For Life

However, it is advisable that you see your dermatologist or doctor without delay to prevent long term serious acne scarring. Anyway, time to move on to the matter at hand, removing those whiteheads!

a) Recognize whiteheads ready for removal

An important step in learning how to get rid of whiteheads is learning to recognize whiteheads that are mature (or ripe) for removal. You can easily recognize them because they look just like they’re about to burst, coloured mostly white or pale yellow.

If you attempt to burst them too soon, you may actually make it worse by forcing all that bacteria and puss further down the pore, and introduce a higher risk of scarring. Some recommend not to pop whiteheads at all, but then again they’re probably not experiencing the stigma of having one! If you know what you’re doing, popping a whitehead is a relatively safe procedure.

b) Prepare suitable tools of the trade

All you really need are some basic tools you could easily get from a standard first aid kit. You’ll need a needle, cotton swabs, some rubbing alcohol (or antiseptic solution), some warm water, sterile gauze and a clean cloth. You might want to prepare a band aid as well to cover the affected site later. Since you are learning how to get rid of whiteheads, it would be worthwhile making an investment to purchase these items for future use also.

c) Wash your hands and face

Wash your hands with running warm water and soap. Also ensure that you gently wash your face with a cleanser so the area surrounding the whitehead is not infected. Once you have done this, wet the cloth with some hot water and leave it against your whitehead for a short while. This is done to ensure pores are open, and is sometimes enough for the whitehead to pop. If this happens, wipe off the contents and proceed to the final step below.

d) Prick the whitehead….tenderly

The first thing you probably want to do is sterilize the needle – no, not by running it over an open flame, but by cleaning it with some rubbing alcohol. Gently puncture the whitehead and immediately after, squeeze on both sides of it. Continue until you see some clear fluid and blood. When that happens, you know you’ve completely removed the whitehead.

Click Here For The Best Guide Available on How To Achieve Permanent Acne Free Skin

e) Disinfect the area with some rubbing alcohol

Soak some cotton pads in rubbing alcohol and gently dab the whitehead and surrounding area to disinfect it. Leave it for several minutes as more fluid may continue to ooze out from it. When it happens, just repeat this last step until it stops flowing. You may then wish to cover the area with a band aid to prevent further infection. As you can see, knowing how to get rid of whiteheads is not such a difficult thing after all.

What if my acne is more serious?

If you find you have a severe form of acne called cystic acne, you may require specialized cystic acne treatments. If that is the case, I recommended that you consult your dermatologist immediately. For all forms of acne in between, there are many good practices you can implement that will set you up to have acne free skin. These include:

Implementing a successful nutritional and dietary blueprint to eliminate acne

Knowing the right topical treatments to use and which ones are suitable for your skin

Managing lifestyle habits such as stress control, drinking enough water, sleeping correctly, etc.

With so much attention on facial acne, body acne often fails to muster more than a quick mention. However, it cannot be ignored as its can be as annoying and troublesome as facial acne.

Many people think that body acne treatments involve expensive creams and long medication prescriptions but this article will show that it can be achieved through a few simple steps you can do everyday.

You may not realize it, but your back, chest, shoulders and neck have as many if not more sebaceous glands than your face. While they may not necessarily be as active as the facial ones, this would explain how those seemingly harmless areas can suffer acne.

Click Here for The Best Guide on Body Acne Treatments

Due to an active lifestyle and some evidence that body acne is linked to your hereditary history, it is no surprise that some people suffer from body acne more than others. The following are my top body acne treatments tips in no particular order:

a) Maintain proper hygiene through regular washing

It is important to have regular showers to clean your body of dirt and dead skin cells that accumulate over time. Having said that, some people have the tendency to wash too often. Daily showers should be more than sufficient. You may also find an anti-bacterial shower works best to clear your acne quickly. Some body acne treatments come available in the form of shower gels as well. A warm shower is also advisable as an excessively hot shower can dry your skin and cause redness to your skin.

If you are particularly active and tend to sweat a lot, the golden rule is to shower as soon as possible when you do! Also, try to avoid those hard scrubs or loofah as they can be a bit harsh on the skin and may be too abrasive on the skin. When finished with your shower, pat dry instead of scrubbing too hard and allow slightly damp areas to simple air-dry.

b) Use the right topical body acne treatments (creams or solutions)

Use these treatments only 10 – 15 minutes after you shower as any sooner may irritate your skin. There are several over the counter (OTC) treatments available but I will just highlight the different commonly available types here:

Benzoyl peroxide solution:- Acts as an anti-bacterial agent that gets rid of acne causing bacteria. These are commonly available in concentrations between 2.5% to 10%. The concentration to use depends on your acne severity, and should be discontinued if it causes skin irritation or rashes. Be aware that it has some bleaching properties and may damage clothing it comes into contact with. For many, this is one of the best forms of body acne treatments.

Salicylic or alpha hydroxy acid solutions:- These work roughly the same way in that they unclog pores quickly by causing topmost layers of skin to peel off quicker. There might be a slight sting upon application, but definitely discontinue if the pain persists.

Click Here for The Best Available Guide on Achieving and Maintaining Acne Free Skin

Tea Tree Oil products:- These are popular and work because they have anti-bacterial properties and help to dry excess sebum due to their astringent properties. Some find these to be ineffective for more severe forms of acne.

Whatever the method you choose for yourself, be sure to follow the directions carefully as per the manufacturer’s prescriptions.

c) Wearing clean, looser fitting clothing

While I am personally a big fan of fashion, it is equally as important to allow your skin to breathe. Cotton clothing is generally very good for this while some synthetic materials are atrocious. Especially if you’re playing sports, it is important that perspiration on your skin can dry off quickly. One other thing, make sure you wear only clean clothes, as you do NOT want grime, sweat, dirt and skin cells accumulated on your apparel to find their way back to your skin. While not exactly like one of the body acne treatments mentioned above, this piece of advice is as good as any.

It is triggered by a set of hormones in your body called androgens, of which the hormone testosterone is chief. Don’t be fooled into thinking that only males have testosterone, it is actively present in females as well, albeit in much lower concentrations (around a tenth).

Poor dietary habits, hygiene practices and unmanaged stress levels contribute to acne problems because they can affect your body’s hormonal system. This often leads to the belief that hormonal acne treatments are the best way of controlling acne, but this articles discusses that later.

In brief, testosterone sets acne into motion by triggering your sebaceous glands to produce sebum or oil on your skin. Some pores may then become blocked by a combination of sebum and dead skin cells. This subsequently leads to pimples, blackheads or more severe forms of acne, depending on the extent of blockage.

Click Here for The Best Guide on Getting and Maintaining Acne Free Skin

As you would expect, when your body undergoes significant hormonal changes, this often results in an increase of sebum production and naturally an expected increase in acne occurs. The following are 3 examples where acne gets worse during hormonal changes:

Puberty :- It is commonplace knowledge that teenagers universally experience acne breakouts during this period of their life. This can be attributed to a surge in hormonal levels during the developmental phase.

Menstrual or pregnancy cycle :- Women often report that their acne gets slightly worse around when they have their monthly period. While exact causes are unknown, this may be related to a rise in testosterone, particularly mid-cycle.

Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) :- A condition where women suffer hormonal disorders, several testosterone -induced changes are observed, such as acne and abnormal body and facial hair growth.

Hormonal Acne Treatments available

As expected the following treatments work by either rebalancing hormonal levels. This is achieved either by inhibiting the action of certain hormones (such as the anti-androgen drug) or by replacing androgen levels with female hormones (estrogen, etc.). Hormonal acne treatments that are commonly available include the following:-

Anti-androgens :- Originally developed to control blood pressure, it has been found to be effective in controlling acne as well. It blocks the hormone aldesterone, which is responsible for raising blood pressure, but also manages to block testosterone, since they are similar in chemical structure. Normally used in conjunction with oral contraceptives.

Oral contraceptives (OCs) :- These treatments work because they focus on lowering free testosterone in the body. A variety of these are commercially available such as Yasmin, Alesse and Diane-35. However, a word of warning as some carry a particular safety risk, such as Finasteride. It is best to consult either your pharmacist or gynaecologist also well versed with using OCs as an acne control method.

An inevitable side effect of using hormonal acne treatments is that there are many side effects associated, all in varying degrees. A majority of people using this report great results for acne, but also complain of issues such as increased weight gain, mood swings, changes in sex drive as well as uncontrolled appetites. This unpredictability is a natural consequence of tampering with the body’s hormonal system with results varying from person to person.

Long term solutions

While using hormonal acne treatments can produce stunning results skin wise, they often negated by detrimental effects on other systems in the body. Acne is something that needs to be managed holistically and sustainably. While these treatments above can form part of your arsenal in getting rid of acne, it is not realistic to solely rely on them. Your strategy to combat acne should consist of the fundamentals- carefully managing your diet and lifestyle while ensuring your emotional and stress levels are healthy.

Using hormonal acne treatments are only meant to be temporary measures, don’t be fooled into thinking these are be all and end all solutions. If you want to be serious about managing your acne for the long run, it must be earned. There is no substitute for a blueprint that is both balanced and sustainable. Trust me taking this approach will be more than worth your while.
